Pains of Youth

Produced at UCLA
Directed by Conor Hanratty

The design concept was to create sequential tension and release, while maintaining the illusion that the characters are trapped in their apartment building. With a scenic and lighting design firmly grounded in realism, the sound design required an extremely delicate and subtle touch.

Microphones were hidden in set pieces and Waves© studio reverb plug-ins were utilized to alter the acoustics of the room in real time. Meyer Sound's LCS was used to mix and distribute the outputs, which were then routed to a complement of over 20 Meyer speakers throughout the theater. A Meyer MM-4M was hidden on a moving set piece to bring life to a nonfunctional gramophone prop.
